Farmer John runs an advertisement for apple pickers, interviews applicants, and selects the fifty people he thinks best. He tells the fifty people that they will be paid a nickel for each apple they pick; the top five pickers the first week will be named supervisors; any caught sleeping on the job, along with the five who pick the least, will be fired and replaced. The fifty people agree to this contract.
Workout mirrors can be downright creepy. Some people with odd narcissistic streaks may enjoy watching themselves contort and sweat while “Let’s Get Physical” blares through overhead speakers, but most people probably do not. Furthermore, mirrors aren’t exactly a precise way to gauge your workout moves you often have to angle your head uncomfortably to try to catch a glimpse of your form.

In the last decade, I have watched Ivy City dwindle from a working class area filled with promise to a poverty stricken community plagued by drugs and prostitution. Ivy used to cover many houses and the former Alexander Crummell School. But visitors to this impoverished section of the city will soon find that lovely cascading ivies don’t grow here anymore..
